The Taos Art Museum is housed in the home of Nicolai Fechin (Fechin House), who with his family moved to Taos in 1927. Born in Russia, Fechin is one of the most important portrait painters of the 20th Century. His paintings of Native Americans and of the New Mexico desert landscape are considered among his best works.

Description of paintings for Captured Moments Show

Each painting draws the viewer into the experience of the unique beauty of a time and place: Spring, before grapes are on the vines and the mustard grows wild and vibrant yellow in the vineyard; Summer, at noon in a winegarden with a peaceful fountain and tables set for guests; a rose bush flush with blooms against the sun-warmed adobe wall; A mission bell tower against the soft grey green of a mountain.

Skiing in Steamboat Springs

We leave tomorrow morning to go up to Steamboat Springs for the weekend with
some friends of ours that have a very nice condo/townhome near the slopes. Since
we have a 2 and a 5 year old my husband and I probably will not have the chance to ski together. I might stay back and do some suedo plein air painting out the window.

When staying with friends, I like to leave them with a painting. I am going to bring all my equipment and see what I can do.

Mentor

I am painting with my mentor Barbara Marquardt again on Wednesday mornings. Several other artists and I paint together at Barbara's studio in her basement here in Fort Collins, Colorado.

She is in her late 80s now. She is a fantastic artist. I use her painting in layers method.

Painting with Barbara makes me very aware of how precious time is. How lucky am I to be able to paint with someone I consider to be so knowledgable.

To see my paintings, please visit: http://www.MarieMassey.com
Barbara has written a great book on her method of painting that I recommend. for more information on the book see http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/096296381X/ref=cm_cr_mts_prod_img
