Description of paintings at Hanson Gallery

Artist Marie Massey has a new collection of Lyrical Landscapes from Carmel to Tuscany at Hanson Gallery Carmel.

Myriad brush strokes, sensitive line, and a brilliant palette bring life to paintings of lazy vineyards with Spring blooms, meandering gardens, sunlit architecture, and the romance of Italy and Carmel, California.

Venetian Twilight is a 30" x 40" of Venice just after dawn as the ancient city slowly wakes up. Gondolas rock gently in the harbor, the sky lights with the morning sun and reflections of centuries
old architecture sparkle in the Mediterranean.

Vintner's Meadow is a 24" x 30" of a small vineyard in Tuscany. Red poppies bloom in spontaneous
profusion among rambling vines ensconced in an olive grove.

Venzano Gardens, Tuscany is a 24" x 48" of a hill top garden that was once a monastery in the hills of Tuscany. A vine-covered trellis leads through a casual garden of Iris, poppies, climbing roses and Juniper shrubs to a stone building with a terracotta tile roof.

Marie paints en-studio at the Hanson Gallery several days a week during which time
she has painted many smaller scale landscapes of Carmel which are now available in the gallery.
There is a 24" x 12" vertical painting of the Carmel Mission bell tower entitled "Mission Bell".
This painting offers a unique hilltop perspective of the historical Carmel Mission in a subtle palette
of blues, greens and golds.

There is a 12" x 12" painting entitled, Mission Door, of a carved wooden door in an adobe
wall that leads to a courtyard dressed in roses and palm fronds. Lastly there is a 10" x10"
piece entitled Carmel Cottage of a tiny cottage in the shade of a California oak tree also on the
Carmel Mission grounds.
